We live in this period of human history where the whole world is right at our fingertips. The advent of computers has changed our lives and keeps changing the way we live. We now find ourselves in this transitory stage of social evolution where knowledge workers have become the most valuable capital of nations in the global village. This is the Age of Information. This is the Age of Technology. This is the Age of Knowledge.

In the years to come, the shift from traditional modes of learning to what we may tentatively call “blended learning” will become more pronounced. All our campuses and branches have started utilizing online instruction or e-learning, making education more accessible anytime, anywhere. As the pioneer of online education, we shall soon venture into the establishment of the global online university.

Our expansion plans, therefore, are three-pronged. First, physical expansion by establishing other campuses abroad. Second, virtual expansion by dominating cyber space through online education. Third, internal expansion by opening new branches in the Philippines.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to produce globally competitive knowledge workers and we shall continue creating the demand for competent ICT manpower in the world market.

<font face=arialWith 13 computers and 13 students in a rented tenement in Mandaluyong in 1980, the AMA Education System has now grown into the biggest network of campuses in Asia.

At present, it has more than 100 branches in the Philippines and abroad. It has an annual student population of 150,000. And it has produced almost 200,000 highly competent computer professionals employed by various companies worldwide.

The AMAES started as an Institute of Computer Studies. At that time, computers were expensive and microprocessors were very new. But its founder, Dr. Amable R. Aguiluz V, saw a vision of the Philippines as the world’s premier source of manpower through computer education. Dr. Aguiluz vigorously pursued his plan of setting up a center of computer learning in every corner of the Philippines.

A year later, a positive response from computer enthusiasts encouraged the Institute to offer a four-year course in Computer Science – the first in the Philippines then – and was thus renamed AMA Computer College. In 1983, the institution grew into a network of colleges in Metro Manila.

By 1989, the AMAES began its provincial expansion by putting up a college campus in Cebu. Currently, there are 40 AMA colleges scattered all over the Philippines.

Meanwhile, the advent of AMA Computer Learning Center in 1986, AMA International Institute of Technology (AIIT) in 1996 and ABE International College of Business and Economics in 1999 filled the need for quality training and education for Filipino youth who do not have the financial capability to clinch a four or five-year degree.

In 1996, the AMAES established the AMA Science School aimed at providing children with an early exposure to science and math concepts through the Great Explorations in Math and Science (GEMS), a curriculum developed by the Lawrence Hall of Science of the University of California at Berkeley.

In 1999, AMA Computer College made another breakthrough – it became the first computer school to be awarded the prestigious ISO 90001 Certification. This certification further attests to the world-class quality education that AMA offers.

Another highlight in AMA Education System’s history is the conferment of university status to AMA Computer College in Quezon City. Now named AMA Computer University, it is regarded as the pioneer and largest IT University in Asia.

As it grows in leaps and bounds, AMAES remains committed to its unending vision to become the leader and dominant provider of relevant and globally-recognized education and training in information and communications technology.

AMA Davao Overall Winner in the 2009 CISCO Skills Competition Mindanao Cluster

Besting all its other competitors in Mindanao, the AMA Davao Advanced Level Team emerged as champion and was designated as the official team to represent the entire Mindanao region in the 2009 National CISCO Skills Competition to be held in Angeles City, Pampanga in March 2009. Led by its coach, Warren Badong, the winning AMA Davao team was composed of Anecito Balatero, Jr., Sheri Lou Igdanes, Darryl May Ramoran and Ryan Rusiana.

The elimination round for the Mindanao cluster schools was held at AMA Davao campus organized by the CISCO Core of the Philippines (C3P). The AMA Davao team beat Mindanao Polytechnic State College in the final elimination round.

CISCO Skills Competition is an annual competition held by the CISCO Networking Academy (CNA), a comprehensive e-learning program that enables students to develop valuable information and communications technology (ICT) skills for increased access to opportunities in the global economy. Elimination rounds are conducted on a regional level and the winners per region are made to compete in a national CISCO Skills Competition.

The competition tests the capability and skill levels of CNA students in the area of computer network hardware design, configuration, development and maintenance, all of which are covered in the CNA program. The competition involves two levels of testing. The first level is multiple-choice online examinations and the second level requires hands-on troubleshooting with preconfigured networks.

In the Philippines, AMA Education System (AMAES), Asia’s pioneer and largest network of universities and colleges, is one of the first partners of CISCO Networking Academy. AMAES is also authorized to administer the exams for CNA certification in the Philippines. Today, AMAES has 19 CISCO Networking Academies, the most number of schools offering CISCO academy programs recognized worldwide.

CISCO is the worldwide leader in networking transforming the way people connect, communicate and collaborate. Today, its CISCO Networking Academy reaches a diverse population of around 800,000 students each year in more than 160 countries.
